Iranian Parliament rejects proposal to teach literature in local languages

The Iranian Parliament rejected Wednesday a proposal to introduce literature classes in local and ethnic languages in schools.

News Center- The Iranian Parliament has rejected a proposal to introduce literature classes in local and ethnic language in schools.

The proposal submitted by the Education, Research, and Technology Committee was rejected with 130 against, 104 in favor and five abstentions during a public session on Wednesday.

Iran is home to multiple ethnic groups, including Kurdish, Arab, Baloch and Turkmen people. For years, they have demanded education in their native languages; however, they face restrictions in education. In recent years, Kurdish teachers in Iran and Rojhelat Kurdistan (Eastern Kurdistan) have faced arrests and prison sentences. The Iranian regime has sentenced dozens of Kurdish teachers to prison.
