Yemen – The ongoing war in Yemen further deepens inequality and discrimination against women and girls. Despite all the challenges, some women become role models with their own stories. Dalia Mohammed is one of them. She inspires many women and girls by working voluntarily to help people.

Born in a village, southwest of Taiz, she started working voluntarily for people in her village when she was a child. In 2011, she began to work for humanitarian aid organizations in order to help her society. In 2015, she worked actively for various youth initiatives and groups in the city of Taiz.

She helped the evacuation of 475 people in the line of fire

Dalia Mohammed helped the evacuation of 475 people in the line of fire and provided them temporary and safe spaces. “When I saw that the humanitarian aid organizations had difficulties in reaching those living in the line of fire, I reached them with the support of youth initiatives despite many difficulties and risks,” she told NuJINHA.

 She made efforts for children in rural areas

In rural areas of Taiz, children were deprived of education for two years due to ongoing conflict. Daila Mohammed made great efforts to send children to school. She worked in coordination with youth initiatives to rebuild schools destroyed in bombardments, and removed landmines around the schools.

She solved water problems in six villages

Daila Mohammed also solved water problems in six villages of al-Dhabab. “With the help of families, we dug water wells because they did not have access to drinking water. After digging the wells, we installed pipes so that all villagers could benefit from the water wells. Now, the villagers have no water problems and farmers can irrigate their agricultural lands,” said Dalia Mohammed, who formed a health team with young initiatives to provide healthcare services to rural areas. “We do our best to provide healthcare services to all villages but we need more medical supplies.”

She was honored with award

Daila Mohammed was honored with an award at the “Arabia Does Not Know the Impossible” conference for her exceptional efforts in humanitarian work. “I hope this award will encourage other women, especially girls, in rural areas to realize their dreams.”
