‘Imrali is the address of the solution in Turkey’

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs have held a sit-in protest in front of the Ministry of Justice demanding an end to the isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and an urgent visit to him in prison for nine days.

Ankara - The sit-in protest launched by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs in front of the Ministry of Justice demanding an end to the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and an urgent visit to him in prison has entered its ninth day.

Today, HDP MPs Tülay Hatimoğulları, İmam Taşçıer, Abdullah Koç, Erdal Aydemir, Ayşe Sürücü, Hüseyin Kaçmaz, Şevin Coşkun and Nusrettin Maçin wanted to march to the Ministry of Justice; however, police prevented them from marching. After the prevention of police, HDP Amed MP İmam Taşçıer issued a statement.

‘Obey your own laws!’

The statement noted that no news has been received from Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan for 21 months.

“We have received no news from him since he had a phone call with his family members 21 months ago. What we say to the ruling party of the Republic of Turkey is that; obey your own laws! Although these laws are mostly from the fascist junta of September 12, you amend laws as you want; however, you don't even feel you must obey the laws that you cannot amend. Actually, this practice is the practice of one man. Between 2013 and 2015, a negotiating table was set up in İmralı with Mr. Öcalan. Who set up this table? The current ruling party. In 2015, this ruling party overturned the table and today, the same ruling party has imposed the isolation (on Abdullah Öcalan). While we mention the ruling party, we mean the injustice and lawlessness of one-man rule,” the statement said.

‘The war will end if an opportunity is given’

The statement also highlighted that the policy of isolation has been carried out across Turkey, “Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years; he was subjected to isolation. Then, he became the president of his country. He became the first black president of South Africa. Then, he received the Nobel Peace Prize and hundreds of awards. If an opportunity is given to Mr. Öcalan today, the war in the Middle East will end. There will be no war with Syria. No one will enter the territory of Southern Kurdistan. We will not be on the verge of a war with Greece. Turkey has suffered from an economic and political crisis due to the war.”

‘The key for solution is in Imrali’

Underling that the key for solution is in Imrali, the statement said, “The key for democracy is Mr.Öcalan, who has been held in Imrali. When the isolation imposed on Öcalan is lifted, when the negotiating table is set up again, Turkey will have democracy and the Kurds will live free in their own land.”
