News Center- The civilian vigil on the Tishreen Dam started against the attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions has continued for more than 40 days. NuJINHA spoke to some women joining the vigil on the dam.
‘We will resist until we die’
“The unity and strong stance of the people bring this resistance into view,” said Manal Fahri, member of the Council of Martyrs Families in Qamishlo (Qamishli). We will never give up resisting. The gains we have achieved in Rojava are the gains achieved by the blood of our martyrs and the resistance of our military forces and our people. The resistance of the people on the Tishreen Dam continues despite the ongoing attacks. We will resist until we die.”
‘The Tishreen Dam is the lifeblood of the region’
Zarifa Al-Sayed, member of the Zenubya Women’s Community, spoke about how the dam is important for the people of the region. “The Tishreen Dam is the lifeblood and the primary energy source of the region since it provides water and power to the region. Warplanes and drones target the dam and this may cause the dam to collapse. If the dam collapses, it will turn into a real disaster that threatens the lives of millions of people. Civilians join the vigil to protect their dam against the ongoing attacks.”
‘The resistance of the people is very important’
“The resistance on the Tishreen Dam shows the determination and struggle of the civilians against the ongoing Turkish attacks,” said Dhikirat Al-Mousa, another member of the Zenubya Women’s Community. “Despite all the attacks, civilians continue to protect their dam and support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The solidarity of the people is now very important. People from all ages join the resistance on the Tishreen Dam. The resistance of the people is very important.”
Call on international organizations
Zarka Tayyar, a human rights activist from Kobanê, called on international human rights organizations to take immediate action against the ongoing attacks on the dam.
“For years, the Syrian people have suffered from the civil war and difficult living conditions. Now, they deserve to live freely in their country. However, they still face attacks. The Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions have intensified their attacks on North and East Syria, especially the Tishreen Dam, committing rights violations. Since the start of the Rojava Revolution, the Turkish state has carried out attacks on North and East Syria. Since the fall of the regime, it has intensified its attacks. The Turkish attacks on the Tishreen Dam continue while the people of the region keep resisting the attacks. The attacks of the Turkish state on energy resources and civilian infrastructure in the region is a violation of international laws and conventions. If the Tishreen Dam collapses due to the attacks, it will affect the whole region. The Turkish attacks on the dam have deprived approximately 413,000 civilians of water and power and threatened hundreds. International human rights organizations must take immediate action against the ongoing attacks on the dam.”
