Genocide against Yazidis: Yazidis visit mass graves in Hardan village
On the anniversary of the genocide committed against the Yazidi community by ISIS in 2014, Yazidis visited mass graves in the village of Hardan.
News Center- Nine years have passed since ISIS committed a genocide against the Yazidi community started on August 3, 2014. Members of the Yazidi organizations and institutions visited the mass graves in the village of Hardan, Shengal (Sinjar), and commemorated those who lost their lives in the genocide.
Kinê Xidir, member of the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Azadiya Jinên Êzîdî-TAJÊ), made a speech at the commemoration. Drawing attention to the cooperation of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the genocide, she said, “Our people were killed nine years ago by Daesh with the cooperation of the Barzani family. Their aim was to annihilate the Yazidi community and depopulate Shengal. Our people resisted and did not allow them to realize their dreams. We call on our people not to forget this dark day and commemorate our martyrs. We promise that we will keep following the cause of our martyrs.”
“Not recognizing the genocide is a shame’
In her speech, Kinê Xidir also said, “This black day stands as a black mark on the foreheads of the countries claiming that they protect humanity and human rights. This genocide was committed in front of the whole world. However, no one protected us. Not recognizing the atrocity of ISIS against our community as a genocide is a shame of countries.”
