Gaza: Journalist Islam Muhareb Abed killed, media death toll climbs to 247
Palestinian journalist Islam Muhareb Abed was killed in Gaza during live coverage, in what officials described as a direct Israeli strike, raising the death toll of journalists since the war began to 247.

News Center – Israeli forces have continued their assault on Gaza for more than 18 months, facing accusations of genocide marked by indiscriminate killings, starvation, systematic destruction, and forced displacement—defying international rulings, including orders by the International Court of Justice to halt military operations.
Medical sources said on Sunday, August 31, that Islam Muhareb Abed, a correspondent for Al-Quds Al-Youm TV, was killed in a direct strike while reporting in the field.
Gaza’s Government Media Office confirmed her death, stating that the number of journalists killed since the war on Gaza began has now reached 247. The office accused Israeli forces of deliberately targeting Palestinian journalists to silence the truth.
It condemned the killing and called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and global media organizations to denounce these crimes and exert real pressure to stop the assaults and protect journalists in Gaza, describing the attacks as “heinous crimes” warranting international prosecution.
The office held Israeli forces, the U.S. administration, and Western governments fully responsible for these violations, urging the international community to act immediately to halt the massacres, safeguard journalists, and hold Israel accountable before international courts.
Since the war between Israeli forces and Hamas began in October 2023, more than 63,000 people have been killed and over 190,000 wounded, most of them women and children. More than 9,000 remain missing, while famine has claimed 339 lives—including 124 children—amid what rights groups describe as the worst humanitarian crisis in decades.
