French city honors activist, granting her honorary citizen title
The French city of Annecy granted women’s rights activist Narges Mohammadi honorary citizenship during its annual “Solidarity Month,” highlighting human rights violations in Iran

The French city of Annecy has granted Narges Mohammadi, human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the title of “Honorary Citizen” in recognition of her enduring fight for freedom and justice. The honor was presented as part of the city’s annual “Month of Solidarity”, an event aimed at drawing attention to human rights violations in Iran.
At the ceremony, Mohammadi was represented by her son Ali Rahmani and her husband Taghi Rahmani, who received the award on her behalf. In a statement issued by the Narges Mohammadi Foundation, the recognition from Annecy was described as “a valuable expression of international solidarity with the struggle for human rights in Iran and support for those engaged in this cause.”
The foundation expressed gratitude to the residents and local authorities of Annecy, praising the initiative as “a powerful message of support and solidarity with human rights defenders in Iran.” It further emphasized that such gestures strengthen the global spirit of solidarity in the ongoing struggle for dignity and freedom.
It is noteworthy that the Narges Mohammadi Foundation is dedicated to defending human rights and documenting violations faced by activists, particularly in Iran. The organization was established to support Mohammadi’s lifelong efforts against political repression and in defense of freedom of expression and women’s rights.
