Former BDP Co-chair Emine Ayna sentenced to more than 2 years in prison
Former BDP Co-chair Emine Ayla, who has been held in pre-trial detention in the Kobani trial, has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for her speeches when she was a member of the Turkish parliament.
News Center- Emine Ayna, former Co-chair of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” and “opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”.
Emine Ayla, who has been held in pre-trial detention in the Kobani trial, did not attend the hearing held by the Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court on Tuesday. At the hearing, the prosecutor demanded prison sentence against Emine Ayla on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” and “opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations” for her speeches at 34 protests and events when she was a member of the Turkish parliament.
‘Her speeches were about the resolution of the Kurdish question’
At the hearing, her lawyer Semra Balyan denied accusations against her client and emphasized that her client made the speeches when she was a member of the Turkish parliament and co-chair of the BDP. “Her speeches were about the resolution of the Kurdish question,” she said and demanded the release of Emine Ayna.
The Court sentenced Emine Ayna to two years and six months on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” and “ opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”.
