Beyoğlu Governor's Office has announced that activities and events such as meetings, protests, marches, press statements, and sit-in protests will be banned in Taksim on March 8. Every year, women hold Feminist Night March at Taksim Square on March 8 to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Istanbul- Istanbul Governor's Office has announced that activities and events such as meetings, protests, marches, press statements, and sit-in protests will be banned in Beyoğlu on March 8. Every year, women hold Feminist Night March at Taksim Square, located in Beyoğlu district, on March 8 to celebrate International Women’s Day. Thus, Feminist Night March has been banned by the Istanbul Governor’s Office.
The statement released by the governor’s office says that until now 47 activities have been held in 20 districts of Istanbul for International Women’s Day since March 3, 2022. “It has been determined that calls have been made on social media to organize various events in and around Taksim Square on the occasion of March 8 International Women's Day. Beyoğlu District Governor's Office has banned all activities and events such as meetings, protests, marches, press statements and sit-in protests to be held in Beyoğlu district on March 8, 2022, in order to protect rights and freedoms and to prevent crime to be committed,” the statement says.
