Families of prisoners: Put your hand on your heart
On the 289th day of their Justice Watch, the families of prisoners call for sensitivity about the situation of the sick prisoners and the prisoners, who are not released despite having completed their sentences.
Amed - On the 289th day of their Justice Watch, the families of prisoners gathered in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse.
Today, the families of prisoners received support from the members of the Association of Assistance and Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER), Association for Solidarity with Families of Arrestees (TUAY-DER), Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Diyarbakır Association of 78's and Mesopotamia Language, Culture and Research Association (MED-DER).
“Sick prisoners must be released”
Reşahat Ada, the sister of imprisoned Hamdusena Ada, said, “When our children serve their sentence in prison, they are asked, ‘Do you regret or not?’ In response, our children say, ‘You sentenced us to 20 years and 30 years in prison. We do not regret it because we follow this path to protect our honor and language’. Our children are not released from prison because they say they do not regret. I am calling on the Justice Minister and President to put their hand on their heart and release our children. Sick prisoners must be released.”
“Implement your law”
Speaking about the hunger strike started by prisoners, Reşahat Ada said, “We are here to prevent our children from dying in prison. We are here not to receive the coffins of our children from prison. People are kept in a solitary cell for 10 years. This is an inhuman practice. Implement your law. Our children started a hunger strike to protest rights violations in prisons. Now, fathers cannot see their children and children cannot see their fathers. We do not accept this situation. I call on everyone to hold a sit-in protest in front of this courthouse to support the hunger strikers.”
