Amed (Diyarbakır)- The Mesopotamia Women Journalists’ Association (MKG) has released a statement on the 14th anniversary of the death of Kurdish journalist and writer Evrim Alataş.

The legacy of Evrim Alataş, who was the voice of the free press, will not be forgotten, the statement said. “We commemorate Evrim Alataş, the brave voice of free thought and pen, on the 14th anniversary of her death. Born in the Gülpınar village of Malatya’s Argan (Akçadağ) district, Alataş was a journalist, writer, screenwriter and human rights activist. Alataş, who started doing journalism in 1994, left deep marks in journalism by working as a reporter and editor for many newspapers such as Yeni Politika, Demokrasi, Özgür Bakış, Ülkede Özgür Gündem, Evrensel, BirGün and Özgür Politika. She wrote many books such as ‘Mayoz Bölünme Hikayeleri’ and ‘Biz Bu Dağın Çiçeğiydik’. She was the scriptwriter of a film entitled “Min Dît (The Children of Diyarbakır)” by compiling the tragicomic stories of the war in Kurdistan.

‘We will never forget her struggle’

“Alataş, who did not leave her pen and her struggle while fighting cancer, passed away in Amed on April 12, 2010. Her thoughts, writings and struggle continue to inspire and guide us today. As MKG, we will never forget Evrim Alataş's struggle and legacy. Her struggle for freedom and justice will always guide us.”
