Riha (Urfa) - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP’s former Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Pirsûs (Turkish: Suruç) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered in its 820th day.

 Today, the first hearing of the trial against Emine Şenyaşar, who allegedly insulted İbrahim Halil Yıldız on February 16, 2022, (On the 345th day of the sit-in protest), was held by the Urfa 3rd Criminal Court for First Instance. Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar attended the hearing.

 At the hearing, Emine Şenyaşar said that she would defend herself in Kurdish. When Emine Şenyaşar was asked “Are you married?” and “How many children do you have?”,  she said, “They killed my husband and two children and attempted to kill my other children.”

Speaking about the accusations against her, Emine Şenyaşar said, “I take medicines. My son (Fadıl Şenyaşar) has been kept in a solitary cell for five years. I cannot sleep without taking my medicines. It was a long time ago, I do not remember what I said, but I remember how they killed my children.”

Her lawyer demanded a report to be prepared by independent experts

Emine Şenyaşar’s lawyer Hidayet Enmek said that the report included in the investigation was prepared by undercover police officers and demanded a report to be prepared by independent experts.

The court has adjourned the next hearing to November 29, 2023 for the prosecutor to submit the opinion.

After the hearing, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar went in front of the Urfa Courthouse to demand justice again.

Since the first day of the sit-in protest for justice, 31 investigations have been launched against Emine Şenyaşar on charges of “insulting”.
