Emine Şenyaşar: I have been persecuted for two years

“I have been persecuted for two years,” said Emine Şenyaşar on the 716th day of her sit-in protest for justice.

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 716th day.

In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse to seek justice for their murdered relatives again. Unfurling a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family”, Emine Şenyaşar and Ferit Şenyaşar lit two candles to support the campaign, “Light a candle in your window” launched to be in solidarity with the earthquake victims. Ferit Şenyaşar made a speech to mark the International Women’s Day, saying, “A woman, mother has been waiting for justice (to be ensured) in front of the Urfa Courthouse for two years. Everyone knows and sees this injustice. The judiciary system, which is responsible for providing justice, is left helpless and cannot fulfill its duty. Those who killed this mother's two children and her husband at the hospital are the MP of the current government.  The judiciary system does not fulfill its duty because he hides behind the president.”

The sit-in protest will enter its second year on March 9

Reminding that their sit-in protest for justice will enter its second year on March 9, Ferit Şenyaşar said, “The mother’s struggle for justice becomes the subject of a book and a documentary. This documentary film is screened at international film festivals. Tomorrow, this documentary film will be screened at the Tahir Elçi Conference Hall of the Urfa Bar Association because our sit-in protest for justice will enter its second year tomorrow.”

“We demand justice for everyone. I have been sitting here for two years. I have been persecuted for two years. My son has been subjected to violence many times. The records of security cameras of the hospital should be revealed so that everyone sees who murdered my children,” Emine Şenyaşar said
