News Center- Headquarters of the Education and Science Workers' Union (Eğitim-Sen) held a press conference and announced that they have launched a campaign demanding, “Gender equality courses must be compulsory at schools”. The conference was held by Gönül Kural Şimşek, Secretary of Finance of the Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK), Done Gevher Koyun, KESK Women's Secretary, Zeynep Korkmaz, Secretary of HUKUK-TİS (Collective Labor Agreements) of KESK, Simge Yardım, KESK Women’s Secretary-General and Arzunur Şimşek, Secretary-General of HUKUK-TİS.

“Inequality and sovereignty feed each other”

Talking about the campaign, Simge Yardım said, “Our tradition in trade unionism has been shaped by being against all social inequalities/injustice taking into account the fact that inequality and sovereignty feed each other. One of the essential prescribes of our union is to include the perspective of gender equality and freedom in our struggle by questioning the patriarchal system and the political space created by it. We have launched this campaign with the motto, “Gender equality education is vital”. We announce once again our demands that we have been demanded for years. We call on the Turkish Ministry of National Education and Council of Higher Education to produce effective policies to meet our demands.”

Eğitim-Sen demands the curriculum should be amended based on a gender equality perspective and that Gender equality courses must be compulsory at schools.
