Drones Kill 14 Displaced Persons in Amhara Region Amid Dangerous Security Escalation

At least 14 Ethiopian displaced persons, including children and pregnant women, were killed in drone airstrikes on an Amhara camp, threatening to explode the tense military situation in northern Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.

NEWS CENTER– The attack on a camp for the displaced in Ethiopia has doubled international and regional fears about the possibility of an outbreak of a direct and open military confrontation between Ethiopia and its neighbor Eritrea, which threatens to drag the entire Horn of Africa region into a new wave of instability.

The Amhara region in northern Ethiopia witnessed a new bloody escalation following a series of successive drone attacks that directly targeted a camp housing hundreds of displaced persons fleeing conflicts, resulting in the killing of at least 14 people in an initial toll, among them children and pregnant women who died at the site of the bombardment.

Eyewitnesses from inside the camp reported that the site was subjected to four successive airstrikes that caused a state of panic and terror, and led to widespread destruction of the displaced persons' tents.

Local sources confirmed that 14 victims were buried inside the shelter center immediately after the attack, while other injured persons died later while being rescued and receiving treatment in nearby medical centers.

These dangerous field developments come at a time when Ethiopia is living under the weight of military conflicts and extended clashes in the Amhara and Oromia regions, simultaneously with the renewal of security tensions in the Tigray region, which is still suffering from the repercussions of the bloody war that raged between 2020 and 2022.
