Detained journalists referred to court for arrest
Being transferred to the Diyarbakır Courthouse in the morning, journalists Beritan Canözer, Mehmet Şah Oruç and Abdurrahman Gök have been referred to the court for arrest while two theater artists have been released.
Amed- On April 25, Turkish police raided many houses in 21 cities across Türkiye as part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
More 100 people, including journalists, lawyers, political activists and theater artists were taken into custody in the home raids conducted in Amed (Diyarbakır), Mêrdîn (Mardin), Sêrt (Siirt), Çêwlig (Bingöl), Wan (Van), Şirnex (Şırnak), Êlih (Batman), Dîlok (Antep), Riha (Urfa), Bursa, İstanbul, İzmir, Mersin, Mûş (Muş), Bedlîs (Bitlis), Colemêrg (Hakkari), Osmaniye, Sivas, Meletî (Malatya), Semsûr (Adıyaman) and Ankara. Technical equipment, computers, books and documents belonging to journalists were also confiscated by the police during the raids.
The names of detained journalists are: Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer; Mesopotamia Agency (MA) editor Abdurrahman Gök; MA reporter Ahmet Kanbal; Osman Akın, editor-in-chief of the Yeni Yaşam Newspaper; Kadri Esen, publisher of the Kurdish weekly newspaper Xwebûn; Mehmet Yalçın, Mehmet Şah Oruç, Mikail Barut, Salih Keleş and Remzi Akkaya.
According to the received reports, 134 people were taken into custody over the testimony of a witness named Ümit Akbıyık. This morning, a group of detained people, including Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) editor Abdurrahman Gök and journalist Mehmet Şah Oruç were transferred to the Diyarbakır Courthouse.
Two theater artists released
Şahperi Alphan Bayhan and Elvan Koçer, theater artists of the Amed City Theater, have been released under judicial control by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office while Beritan Canözer, Abdurrahaman Gök and Mehmet Şah Oruç have been referred to the court for arrest.
