DEM Party: We condemn those who carried out the Çorum Massacre

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has released a statement condemning those who carried out the Çorum Massacre against Alevis and calling on everyone to “preserve historical memory and face the facts.”

News Center- The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Peoples and Beliefs Commission has released a statement to mark the 44th anniversary of the Çorum Massacre in which dozens of Alevis were killed, hundreds of Alevis were injured and their houses and workplaces were destroyed.

“Dark groups within the state targeted Alevis in Çorum in 1980, just like in Maraş in 1978. The Çorum Massacre that started on May 29 and lasted until July 3, is one of the dark marks in the history of Türkiye,” the statement said. “The resistance of the people prevented the massacre from becoming much more intensified and the death toll of the massacre from rising more. Systematic attacks, massacres and policies of assimilation against Alevis in Çorum, Maraş, Sivas and many other places continue today. The massacres that occurred in Çorum, Maraş and Sivas are still remembered as if they were yesterday. We call on everyone to preserve historical memory and face the facts in order to prevent similar massacres from taking place again. We commemorate the people killed in Çorum with respect and condemn  those who carried out this organized massacre. Our struggle will continue until we build a society in which no one will suffer and everyone will live in peace and tranquility with our differences.”
