Qamishlo- On November 19, the Turkish state launched airstrikes on North and East Syria and the Kurdistan Region. Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reporter Essam Abdullah was targeted and killed during Turkish airstrikes in Derîk while covering the attacks. Mohammed Jarada, reporter of Sterk TV, was seriously injured during the Turkish airstrikes on Kobanê.

The colleagues of Essam Abdullah say the truth will never remain in the dark.

“We will follow in his footsteps”

Yara Mihemed, editor of ANHA women's service, underlined that the Turkish state attacks North and East Syria every day and said, “The Turkish state targets journalists in its attacks because it does not want its crimes to be revealed. It targets journalists not only in North and East Syria but also in Bakurê Kurdistan; journalists are subjected to arrest and detention. The Turkish state aims to silence the voices demanding freedom over journalists. Our colleague Essam wanted to report the truth to the world. Essam is not the first martyr of the press and he will not be the last. We know that will pay a heavy price because we are in the process of revolution. We promise to follow in Essam’s footsteps.”

“Our colleague’s pen and camera will not remain on the ground”

ANHA reporter Solin Ehmed condemned the Turkish attacks and said, “Essam Abdullah made the voices of the people heard all around the world since the beginning of the Revolution in Rojava. He resisted all forms of brutality and attacks. The Turkish state aims to silence the voice of the truth. Essam Abdullah was killed in one of the Turkish attacks. But the Turkish state cannot silence us by targeting and attacking us. We promise to follow in our colleague's footsteps. Our colleague’s pen and camera will not remain on the ground. We keep standing by our people and being their voices.”
