Close Karçak Prison
The Iran Human Rights Organization called for an investigation into the deaths of political prisoners who lost their lives in Karçak Prison, stating that the prison must be closed.

News Center – The Iran Human Rights Organization issued a statement regarding Somaye Rashidi and Jamile Azizi, who were ignored despite suffering health problems during their detention in Karçak Prison and who died at Varamin Mofatteh Hospital. The organization emphasized that both detainees lost their lives due to negligence.
The statement explained that after Somaye Rashidi’s illness worsened, she fell into a coma, and efforts to transfer both detainees to the hospital failed. In the statement signed by Iran Human Rights Organization Director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, it was said: “An independent fact-finding committee must immediately investigate the causes of these two prisoners’ deaths. The lives of the prisoners are the responsibility of the Iranian Prisons Organization, the Head of the Judiciary, and ultimately the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who must be held accountable.”
Call to international institutions
In the statement, Karçak Prison was described as “a symbol of the blatant denial of human dignity”, and it was stressed: “The international community must no longer remain silent in the face of these widespread human rights violations.” The Iran Human Rights Organization once again called on the international community, human rights institutions, and all people of conscience to take action to shut down Karçak Prison.
Women are held in inhumane conditions
According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, the conditions in the prison are extremely inhumane, especially for women and mothers. Karçak Prison was formerly a building used as a poultry farm. Today, it has been turned into a prison holding women, including political prisoners. Mothers who give birth there are usually forced to separate from their children when they reach the age of two, and they are not able to follow the fate of their children.
