Leader Öcalan: Women’s Freedom in the True Criterion of Socialism, and Jineology Is the Foundation of Free Life
Leader Abdullah Öcalan stressed women's freedom is socialism's true criterion, calling Jineology a revolutionary tool to end women's historical enslavement and build free life through their awareness and resistance.
NEWS CENTER– Amid discussions aimed at evaluating women's historical experiences and anticipating their future, the Jineology Conference in Europe was held, to enhance awareness of her social and historical reality and ways to build a free and democratic life.
Leader Abdullah Öcalan sent today, Thursday, 16 October, a message to the Jineology Conference in Europe, in which he called on the participants to evaluate women's past and future, and to determine the essence of her true existence, while working to enhance awareness of the requirements of free life.
The text of the message addressed by Leader Öcalan to the Jineology Conference said: "Dear comrades, bearers of awareness and action in Jineology, and builders of free life; there is a search that has accompanied me since my childhood and dwells in the depths of my heart, which is the search for the free existence of women, and for finding a space worthy of her. This search deepened when my female companions with whom I used to play were taken from me, as well as when my sister was married off for a cheap price, and in the silent resistance of village women and in the elevation of this resistance to the rank of goddesses, I saw that salvation is possible. So I set out on my journey driven by this faith, and I have always continued to trace their traces, because I realized that the deepest wound in society is the enslavement of women, and without understanding this truth, freedom, equality, or true democracy cannot be achieved."
When Jineology was proposed, my goal was not merely to formulate a new concept, but to redefine women's existence based on her historical and social reality, and to move her from the position of the object to an active subject. This was one of the most vital tasks that I wanted to remain a legacy for history. I wanted to bring back to the forefront the knowledge of the goddesses that patriarchal civilization had obscured for thousands of years, and to show again the woman-centered lifestyle that prevailed in the Neolithic era.
The enslavement of women was the dagger plunged into the back of society, and without wresting this dagger away, it was not possible to solve any problem. Jineology came as a science that recognizes this dagger, uproots it from its place and throws it away, to establish in its place a knowledge of free life.
The efforts made until today in the name of Jineology, and what has been written, discussed, and organized within its framework, have shown that this science is at the same time a lifestyle, and it has formed an outlet and a horizon for women's vision. Purifying women's identity from dominant masculine elements, and creating a special intellectual and practical space for her, was a vital task that should be left as a legacy for human history. This is the fundamental field in which women's science is engaged and for which it struggles.
The saying 'One is not born a woman, but rather becomes one later' is important, but it is necessary that this existence be realized not within the limits imposed by man, but based on women's own power. Therefore, we said that every woman should possess a room of her own, her own voice, and her own knowledge.
As a man, I have constantly subjected myself to accountability and renewal during this process. We have given this process additional meaning, as we sought liberation through transformation, from the dominant masculinity that has prevailed for hundreds of years. I said that the fundamental principle of socialism is women's freedom, because the true criterion of a man's socialism lies in his ability to build a real, equal, and free life with women.
This principle has remained incomplete in many socialist experiences around the world, and this deficiency was a reason for revolutions remaining incomplete. I have sought to transcend this deficiency and to be worthy of the goddesses, and changing and liberating man together with women has become an irreversible task for me. Today we are before a new phase. As much as this phase represents a path of political negotiation for peace and democracy, it also represents a path for rebuilding society.
Women will lead this process; because the important steps achieved until today, despite their limitations, were achieved thanks to women's work, resistance, and intellect, and matters will continue in this way from now on as well. It is necessary that Jineology continue to perform its role as the scientific and ideological foundation for this leadership.
Whenever you see that there is a need for that, I will be with you, and I will think with you and produce with you, because the meaning of life for me is embodied in the free life of women. Let this conference evaluate the past as well as the future of Jineology, and work to define women's existence correctly, and to develop awareness of free life. My project that remained incomplete will be completed by the power of these discussions. My confidence in you is complete until the end. Do not forget that I am always with you."
