CFWIJ: 6 women journalists were killed in December
December was the most deadly month for Palestinian women journalists, said the Coalition For Women In Journalism in its December 2023 report.
News Center- The Coalition For Women In Journalism (CFWIJ) has released its Press Freedom Status For Women Journalists December 2023. “December was the most deadly month for Palestinian women journalists,” said the report.
In December 2023, the CFWIJ documented 76 cases of violations against women journalists throughout the month of December. These included threats and intimidation, denial of access, loss of employment, legal harassment, killings and physical assaults.
“At least 14 journalists faced threats and intimidation in France, Colombia, Canada, Paraguay, Montenegro, Pakistan and Serbia. 14 journalists faced arbitrary denial of access and 7 journalists lost their jobs. In the meantime, 6 journalists were killed,” the report said.
The report also listed the countries with the highest number of cases. “Venezuela was the top country, with 13 journalists facing denial of access,” said the report. In the report, Gaza was ranked second. “The CFWIJ documented the killings of 6 journalists in Gaza in December 2023.” Australia and Montenegro were ranked third in the report.
According to the report, four women journalists were detained in Turkey, Mongolia and Pakistan in December and five women journalists were arrested in Belarus, Mongolia, Russia and the United States. Two women journalists were sentenced to prison in Kazakhstan and Iran, the report said.
