Ceylan Aslan faces prison sentence
Ceylan Aslan, former council member of the Ergani Municipality, has faced a 15-year prison sentence for attending press conferences.
Amed (Diyarbakır)- Ceylan Aslan, was dismissed from her post as council member of the Ergani Municipality by the Turkish Ministry of Interior, has faced 15-year prison sentence for attending press conference, meetings, protests and activities about the hunger strike launched by Leyla Güven, Co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK).
At the hearing of trial against her held by the Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court, the prosecution demanded a 15-year prison sentence against her on charges of “opposing the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations” and “membership in a terrorist organization” for having attended the protests held for Leyla Güven.
The court accepted the request of her lawyers for additional time for the defense. The next hearing will be held on September 27, 2023.
