Celebration of Armenian women in Hesekê for International Women’s Day
Armenian women living in Hesekê held an activity to celebrate International Women’s Day. Women wearing their traditional clothes performed theater plays and sang songs.
Hesekê- Armenian women held an activity at Reşo Hall located in the Mişêrf neighborhood of Hesekê to celebrate International Women’s Day. They hung photos of Armenian goddesses and banners reading, “Women are life themselves” and “We will raise the struggle with the spirit of March 8” on the walls of the hall. The representatives of Kongra Star and NGOs also participated in the celebration.
“We will protect our history”
After observing a minute of silence, Ariv Qwsebiyan, Co-chair of the Armenian Assembly of NE Syria, made a speech. “We, as Armenian women, see this day as a day of our struggle and all women’s struggle. March 8 is the day of liberation from pain and torture. We will protect our history and existence with the spirit of March 8,” she said in her speech.
“Women have rebelled throughout history”
Enûş Teteryan, a member of the Armenian Women's Committee in Hesekê, also made a speech. In her speech she said, “Women have rebelled against injustice and oppression throughout history. Thanks to these women, we, as Armenian women, know our history and revive our language today.”
Call for struggle against violence
Yêrîvan Serêkaniyê made a speech on behalf of the Armenian Military Council. “As the Armenian Military Council, we call on all women not to accept slavery and to stand against all forms of violence. We will protect women from all forms of violence and occupation with the spirit of March 8. We will never forget the Armenian Genocide. Our biggest response to the genocide is our organizing today,” she said in her speech.
After the speeches, Koma Ararat and singer Yara Ehmed took the stage.
