Call from families of prisoners: They should rise up
On the 352nd day of their Justice Watch, the families of prisoners said, “We call on all political parties and the international community to rise up in order to protect the people kept in Turkey’s prisons.”
Amed -The Justice Watch started by the families of prisoners demanding the release of sick prisoners and the prisoners, who are not released despite having completed their sentences, has entered its 352nd day.
Gathering in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse, the families of prisoners issued a press statement. “The people, who have been kept in prison for 30 years, have not been released. They are asked, ‘Do you regret your cause?’ How can we regret our cause? We should never regret our cause. We call on the Ministry of Justice and Presidency to release the prisoners and not to impose disciplinary punishment on them. Treat our sick children in prison,” the statement read.
“Rise up”
Speaking during the watch, Reşahat Ada said, “The new legislative term of the parliament started a month ago; however, this issue has not been put on the agenda of the parliament yet. Some prisoners are older than 70 and they can no longer meet their basic needs in prison. We will struggle for their right to life. We call on all political parties and the international community to rise up in order to protect the people kept in Turkey’s prisons. We will not leave our children alone in prison. Tens of thousands of our people are kept in prison, we bow respectfully before them.”
