Birsen Kars laid to rest
Birsen Kars, who survived in the 19 December Prison Massacre and died from cancer in Germany, was bid farewell to her last journey at Gazi Cemetery.
News Center- Birsen Kars, who suffered serious burns in the massacre carried out in Turkey against the prisoners who went on an indefinite hunger strike against the F-type prisons on 19 December 2000, died in Germany on February 6 while receiving cancer treatment.
Yesterday, the body of Birsen Kars was brought to Istanbul. Her body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) for autopsy by police.
Last night, her body was reportedly given to lawyer Seda Şaraldı, a member of the Lawyers from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD). The Solidarity Association of Prisoners' Relatives (TAYAD) announced on its social media account that they would not bury the body of Birsen Kars until the release of 20 people, Birsen Kars’ relatives and friends who were detained by police while trying to enter the cemevi, a house of gathering for Alevis.
After the release of 20 people, Birsen Kars was bid farewell to her last journey at Gazi Cemetery.
