Ayten Dêrsim: The PKK is a philosophy, ideology and lifestyle

“The PKK is not just a name; it is a living entity. It is a philosophy, ideology and lifestyle,” said Ayten Dêrsim, coordinating member of the Kurdistan Women’s Liberation Party (PAJK).

News Center- The 12th Congress of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) was held simultaneously in two different areas of the Medya Defense Zones between May 5 and May 7, 2025. On May 12, the PKK announced that it decided to dissolve itself and end the armed struggle at the congress. Ayten Dêrsim, coordinating member of the Kurdistan Women’s Liberation Party (PAJK) was one of the people who participated in the congress, said at the congress.

In her speech at the congress, Ayten Dêrsim first commemorated those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom. “In the persons of Comrade Fuat and Comrade Rıza, I vow again that I will be a follower of the truth travelers,” she said, noting that Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan wanted to renew the perspective, theory and ideology of the PKK at the 6th Congress of the PKK. “Our leader always says, ‘Those who do not renew themselves will be renewed by others or those who do not change will be changed by others’. Our leader defines democracy by saying, ‘Democracy develops based on self-dynamics, self-power, self-consciousness’.”

‘The PKK is a philosophy, ideology and lifestyle’

Ayten Dêrsim also recalled the words of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan saying, “You should not expect change from the other people, you should have the power to change.”

“History is a living entity. The PKK is not just a name; it is also a living entity. The PKK is a philosophy, ideology and lifestyle,” she said. “Understanding the leader (Abdullah Öcalan) is to agree with him. The PKK created morality, consciousness and existence.

Now, we need to build this existence. Understanding the leader is to protect our 52-year history of struggle, our martyrs, and the created values. The socialist culture that is put forward by the leader is a democratic culture. The leader suggests a communal life, a collective integrity, recognizing each other's will.  We should restructure and reorganize ourselves in the face of the duties and responsibilities that history expects from us in the new process by preserving all the created values.”
