Hasakah- The “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî (English: Women, Life, Freedom)” uprising that sparked in Iran and Rojhelat Kurdistan following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini by Iran’s so-called “morality police” in Tehran on September 16, 2023, still affects all around the world.
In an interview with NuJINHA, Ahin Ahmad, a high school teacher in the city of Hasakah, commented on the effects of this uprising that started in Rojhelat Kurdistan and spread all over the world.
At the beginning of her speech, she drew attention to the revolution led by women in Rojava. “The revolution protects all legitimate rights of women and women should protect their gains.”
‘The revolution strengthens my determination for a free and equal life’
“The uprising started in Iran due to oppressive policies against women,” said Ahin Ahmad. “When I heard of the killing of Jina, I felt that a revolution would start. As Kurdish women, must never give up and keep struggling against policies imposed on women by the patriarchal mindset. The revolutionary uprisings in Iran and Rojhelat also excited women all around the world. This revolution strengthens my determination for a free and equal life.”
‘We must unite’
The oppressive policies imposed on women by the Taliban in Afghanistan and the regime in Iran is now implemented in Syria by the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), Ahin Ahmad emphasized, adding: “Women are the color of life and have capacity to play leading roles in society. Today, women fight in Rojava. If we, as women, educate and organize ourselves, no one can destroy us. As a woman of Rojava, I support the women of Rojhelat Kurdistan and send my greetings to them. All women in Rojava and Rojhelat must unite against the patriarchal mindset."
