Abdullah Zeydan divested of his right to be elected by Turkey’s Justice Ministry
DEM Party announced that Abdullah Zeydan, co-mayoral candidate for Van Municipality, had been divested of his right to be elected five minutes before the end of the working day on Friday upon the objection of Turkey’s Justice Ministry.
News Center- The People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Central Executive Board has issued a written statement on local elections in Van province. Abdullah Zeydan, DEM Party’s co-mayoral candidate for Van Municipality, had been divested of his right to be elected five minutes before the end of the working day on Friday, March 29, 2024, upon the objection of Turkey’s Justice Ministry, the statement said.
“The DEM Party has won 14 municipalities, including Van Metropolitan Municipality, with a majority of votes in Van. The people of Van reflected their will in the local elections,” the statement said. “As known, Abdullah Zeydan completed all legal procedures and applied to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) and his candidacy was approved by the YSK as a result of the examinations. Zeydan has been elected as the mayor of Van Metropolitan Municipality by the people of Van. However, he was divested of his right to be elected five minutes before the end of the working day on Friday, March 29, 2024, upon the objection of Turkey’s Justice Ministry.
“Abdullah Zeydan is the elected co-mayor of the Van Metropolitan Municipality. We urge everyone to respect the will of the people of Van. This wrong decision must be reversed immediately. We urge the government to respect the will of the people!”
