AANES reacts to attacks targeting Alawites in Syria
“Protecting Syria's diversity and national wealth is fundamental to building a strong Syria,” said a statement issued by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on Thursday.
News Center- The Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria issued a statement on Thursday regarding the recent developments and attacks on ethnic and religious identities in Syria.
“Due to the rapid developments in Syria, particularly following the overthrow of the Baathist regime, it is essential to move towards adopting a mindset that builds a modern Syria. The unity and solidarity of the Syrian people is a historical requirement in developing a national administrative model based on justice and equality for Syria,” the statement said.
‘Attacks does not serve Syria or its future’
The diversity present in our country, Syria, has a rich history with national and societal value, the statement added. “This richness, destroyed by the Baathist regime, reflects the true identity and reality of Syria. The attacks targeting Alawites on the Syrian coast, the burning of Christmas trees in Hama and Homs, do not serve Syria or its future. Protecting Syria’s diversity and national wealth is fundamental to building a strong Syria.”
‘Protecting the rights and sacred values of all identities in Syria is a national duty’
In the statement, the AANES affirmed that protecting Syria’s diversity and pluralism, and respecting symbols, customs, and traditions is an urgent necessity. “Protecting the rights and sacred values of all identities in Syria is a national duty. Wrong approaches in any part of Syria will have negative consequences and will not bring any benefit to Syria. Such actions will lead to war and conflict and undermine the unity of Syria. Thanks to the democratic nation project that ensures the unity of all people based on the principle of contributions, we have defended this land without war and conflict for many years.”
