Şenyaşar family: Wake up now!
“Wake up now!” said today’s social media post of the Şenyaşar family seeking justice in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 730 days.
Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 730th day.
In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar began to hold their sit-in protest for justice in front of the courthouse by unfurling their banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family”. The Şenyaşar family will spend the Ramadan month in front of the courthouse as they did last year.
Today, Ferit Şenyaşar made a speech in front of the courthouse. Recalling that İbrahim Yıldız lost his life at a hospital although an arrest warrant was issued against him five years ago for killing Celal Şenyaşar and injuring Adil Şenyaşar, Ferit Şenyaşar said, “Although an arrest warrant was issued against him, the nephew of AKP MP got married, had a child and underwent a surgery at a hospital. However, police didn't arrest him. He was detained while he was about to die. When he died, an autopsy was performed and then his body was handed over to his family.” Calling what had happened as a ‘legal scandal’, Ferit Şenyaşar called on the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Health to release a statement about the incident.
‘I will continue to sit’
Making a speech in front of the courthouse, Emine Şenyaşar said that she would continue to sit in front of the courthouse until justice was delivered. “I broke my fast last year in Ramadan month. We will break our fast in front of the courthouse until justice is delivered,” she added.
