“3 years old child was tortured” says HRFT Treatment Centers Report
The youngest tortured child in Turkey was three years old; four out of 10 tortured persons were also subjected to sexual torture, says 2020 HRFT Treatment Centers Report.
News Center- Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT) has released its 2020 Treatment Center Report. The report reveals terrible facts of torture and ill-treatment in Turkey. The number of sexually tortured victims is increasing, according to the report.
At least four out of every 10 tortured people in 2020 (about 40.7 percent) were also subjected to sexual torture. The report also gives the number of people applied to the HRFT; 572 people reported that they had been subjected to torture and ill-treatment; two people reported that they had been subjected to serious human rights violations, 31 people reported that their relatives had been subjected to torture.
The rate of detained people in public spaces and on the streets increased by 61 percent compared to last year despite the lockdowns imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, says the report.
Three years old child was subjected to torture
The report also shares the data revealing the relationship between human rights violations and the Kurdish problem. The people born in Kurdish regions constitute 24.6% of Turkey's population; the rate of people, who were subjected to torture in these regions was 62.6 percent, the report reveals. One out of every four people who applied to HRFT due to torture they faced was still a student.
20 children were subjected to torture in 2020, the average age of the tortured children was 10, and the youngest tortured child in Turkey was three years old, says the report.
