224 people detained after Newroz celebration in Istanbul released
224 people, including 46 children, who were taken into custody yesterday by Turkish police after the Newroz celebration in Istanbul ended, have been released from custody.
News Center- Yesterday, Hundreds of thousands of people attended the Newroz celebration in Istanbul’s Yenikapı Square with the mottos, “Everywhere Newroz, always freedom” and “Freedom with the fire of Newroz”. After the Newroz celebration ended, police attacked and detained 224 people, including 46 chilren, while leaving the square.
46 detained children were taken to the Children's Department of the Fatih District Police Station while 178 people were taken to the Istanbul Security Directorate in Vatan Street. After being questioned, the detained people were released.
35 people detained in Mardin released
Yesterday, Newroz was also celebrated in the Qoser (Turkish: Kızıltepe) district of Mardin province. After the celebration, police attacked the people holding a march and detained 35 people. After being questioned at the Kızıltepe Police Department, they have been released.
