Deterioration of Narges Mohammadi's condition amid demands to transfer her to Tehran for treatment

Currently, Iranian activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi's condition still remains very critical despite cardiology treatment at a Zanjan hospital after sharp health deterioration, according to her foundation.

News Center – The health condition of human rights activist Narges Mohammadi is witnessing a notable deterioration, sparking widespread concern in human rights circles, amid increasing demands to provide specialized medical care for her.

The "Narges Mohammadi Foundation," which follows her condition and is run by her family, said in a statement that Narges Mohammadi, detained in Iranian prisons, is receiving treatment in the cardiology department of a hospital in the city of Zanjan in northwestern Iran, noting that her blood pressure is experiencing dangerous fluctuations and that she is on oxygen support to maintain her stability.

According to the statement, Narges Mohammadi, 54 years old, was transferred to the hospital after a sudden deterioration in her health condition, losing consciousness twice and suffering a severe heart attack. Her family had previously announced that she had suffered a heart attack at the end of last March. The foundation affirmed that her treatment requires her urgent transfer to the capital, Tehran, where her medical team that follows her case is located.

Narges Mohammadi is serving several prison sentences for her activism in defending women's rights and opposing the death penalty. Last February, a new seven‑and‑a‑half‑year prison sentence was issued against her. The Nobel Peace Prize committee had called on Iranian authorities at that time to release her immediately.
