Young women learn karate in Khurmal

Young women attending a karate course in the Khurmal district of Halabja learn karate to defend themselves.

Halabja- Karate is a very effective martial art for women to defend themselves against all forms of violence. Recently, this martial art has attracted the attention of young women in particular.

About two months ago, a karate course was opened in the Khurmal district of Halabja. At the course, more than 50 young women have learned how to defend themselves.

“We want to empower young women”

Zahir Mihemed, a karate teacher of the course, told NuJINHA that the karate course was opened particularly for young women.

“The karate course was opened particularly for young women to defend themselves against all forms of violence and attacks. While young women learn karate, they can also attend our other courses such as swimming courses. We want to empower young women by providing sports courses to them.”

Speaking about the intense interest in the karate course, Şênî Zahir told us that more than 50 young women attend the course now. “Young women love to do sports. They can be successful as long as they work hard. They need time to be successful if they work hard.”

The course increases their self-confidence

14-year-old Sena Ferîdûn is one of the young women attending the course. She wants to be good at karate and participate in the national auditions to be held in Iraq. She thinks the course increases their self-confidence. She also recommends her peers to do sports.
