Amed – The foundation of the Amed Women’s Council was announced recently during a meeting attended by hundreds of women in Amed (Diyarbakır). The women, who founded the council against femicides and attacks on their party and special war policies, will found women’s councils in other cities. The women will form a self-defense front against all kinds of attacks against them.
 
“Women’s councils will be founded in all cities”
 
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun stated that they decided to found women’s councils in all cities after Deniz Poyraz was killed in the attack on their party’s Izmir office. “We will maintain the struggle of Deniz Poyraz, Gülistan Doku and İpek Er under the umbrella of the council,” Remziye Tosun said. The council will work with all women’s organizations and NGOs and its aim is to raise the awareness of the public.
 
“Women’s gains are under attack”
 
Pointing out that as women against the one-man regime, they will continue to take to the streets against femicides, Remziye Tosun said, “Everything has turned into a chaos after Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention at a midnight by the ruling party. We don’t accept the denial of women's rights in this way because the convention was a gain of women even if it wasn’t implemented. Women’s gains are under attack.”
 
“Organizing protects women”
 
Our aim is to protect all women by founding the council against the mindset that ignores women, Remziye Tosun said, “We will stand by women and protect them no matter what happens. Organizing and standing by each other protect us, women. Women should unite against femicides.”
 
“We will found councils in other cities”
Remziye Tosun told us that they will found women’s councils in all cities of Turkey, “Women’s culture and language are under attack everywhere. Special war policies have been carried out particularly in Kurdistan. We have taken to the streets against these special war policies and femicides. HDP will found women’s councils in every city.”
