Huda Naim: If women set goals, they can be successful

“Don’t give up your dreams and rights, follow them because women can be successful if they set goals” says Huda Naim, the vice president of the Gaza Legislative Council.

Gaza- Taking part in decision-making positions is not easy for women living in Arab countries. Women have to wage a long-term struggle to take part in the decision-making positions. Huda Naim, the vice president of the Gaza Legislative Council, is one of the women waging a long-term struggle to take her position. “It wasn’t easy to get this position. Women should work hard to get such positions. They should be close to people in order to help them and hold their hands. Later, these people support you.”

She tried to find solutions to students’ problems at university

When Huda Naim was a university student, she became a member of the Students’ Assembly. She succeeded in an assembly consists of four students. She took responsibility for solving the problems faced by female students.

She worked in a library

Huda Naim had to leave her education at the university due to financial difficulties faced by her family. She decided to work in order to support her family and to complete her education. She started working in the library of the university and kept helping university students.

She supported foreign students

At that time, many students from Iraq and the Gulf countries flocked to the Gaza Strip to complete their university education. Huda Naim helped those foreign students and tried to find financial aid for them. Three years later, Huda Naim completed her bachelor's degree. Huda Naim noted that she was the first person to develop the idea of ​​founding a Psychological Counseling department at the Islamic University of Gaza.

She changed thoughts

Since the first day Huda Naim took office, she has faced many challenges from male members of parliament because she is the only woman. But she managed to change thoughts against her, “After my success in the change of thoughts, I tried to form a women’s group consists of women from different political parties but I couldn’t.”

Huda Naim draws attention to the situation of people with disabilities, “They should be supported to demand their rights.” Huda Naim also works to prevent violence against women. “The punishments given to the perpetrators, who kill women and use violence against women, are not sufficient.”

Emphasizing that the main reason for violence against women is the ignorance of men, Huda Naim said that men don’t know how to establish a dialogue with women. “We should work to change and improve the education curriculum in the Arab world to build a safe environment for women.”
