Qamishlo – Turkey continues to threaten to launch a new military operation in NE Syria. It is now trying to take the control of the M4 highway in the region. Diplomatic Research and Counseling Center Co-chair Evin Siwed commented on Turkey's threats against NE Syria. Turkey has violated human rights in NE Syria, she said, “The policies of Turkey cause many economic and social problems in the region, those who speak out against these policies are arrested and killed. Turkey violates all laws and conventions not only in its territories but also in other territories. The Turkish state has interfered in many battles. Turkey is trying to revive the Ottoman Empire by sending its troops to Libya, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, Southern Kurdistan, and Syria.”

“Their aim is to destroy the unity of the people”

Evin Siwed also commented on the purpose of Turkey trying to take the control of areas such as Manbij, Til Rifet, Kobanî, and Ayn Isa. “The Turkish state's threats against our region are not new threats. If we said that the threats were new and that the war in our region ended, we would make a big mistake. If the Turkish state could, it would occupy every part of NE Syria and Kurdistan. Its aim is to destroy our system,” she told us. Drawing attention to the talks to end the problems in Syria, Evin Siwed said, “However, the Turkish state is lobbying against these talks. It wants to settle the armed groups trained by it for years in our region and to carry out its dirty plans in the region. It aims to occupy cities such as Manbij, Til Rifet, Kobanî, and Ayn Isa to destroy the unity of the people.”

“We will stand against threats and attacks”

Emphasizing that the hegemonic states are using Turkey for their interests in the Middle East, Evin Siwed said, “In fact, the hegemonic states don’t like the policies of the Turkish state. But they think well before taking important steps because want to protect their interests. They use Turkey as a tool for their interest. We know, of course, that we have a democratic project and that there is a common policy against our region. We know that they make secret agreements. But what is important is that we will stand against threats and attacks and we will intensify the struggle against any attacks against our region.”

“We should raise our voices for a permanent solution”

Noting that it is very important for Syrians to raise their voices against such attacks for a permanent solution in Syria, Evin Siwed said, “We hope that our people will act upon the spirit of resistance. The Turkish state has so far not been able to receive the approval of sovereign states such as the USA and Russia. Turkey fears the unity of the Kurds. The Kurdish people have been subjected to many attacks in many fields such as economic and political fields for nearly ten years. But our people will disappoint the threats and attacks with their firm stance. We have a key role to play in resolving the crisis in Syria and we must take responsibility in the struggle against threats.”
