Şêrîn Hesen: The solution to the Syrian crisis lies in the Democratic Nation Project

“The solution to the Syrian crisis lies in the Democratic Nation Project,” Şêrîn Hesen, coordination member of the Afrin Kongra Star, said, emphasizing that the people only can solve this crisis.

Shahba – So far, no permanent solution has been developed to the ongoing violent conflicts that have lasted for more than 10 years in Syria because each state has its own interest in the crisis and keeps fueling conflicts. We spoke to Şêrîn Hesen, a coordination member of the Afrin Kongra Star, about the impact of the Syrian crisis on the people of Afrin, Shahba, and Syria.

“The solution lies in the Democratic Nation Project”

Speaking about the Syrian crisis and its impact on civilians, Şêrîn Hesen said, “The Syrian crisis broke out at the beginning of the revolution when people flocked to the streets to demand a peaceful life. Each state acts according to its interests. So far, no solution has been developed for the Syrian people. Many meetings have been held to develop a solution to the Syrian crisis, but none of them have offered a solution until now. For this reason, the solution to the Syrian crisis lies in its people, in the Democratic Nation Project. This project can solve all problems faced by people and ensure equality for people from all nations.”

“Their aim is to frustrate the Democratic Nation Project”

Emphasizing that many people from all nations living in Rojava are involved in the Democratic Nation project, Şêrîn Hesen said, “When the Kurdish issue is on the table, all states come to an agreement and the Democratic Nation Project is attacked. This project is attacked because it serves people. The aim of the attacks of the Turkish state and its factions on the occupied Afrin and other regions is to frustrate the Democratic Nation Project. As it is known, no solution has been developed for the Syrian crisis so far. Instead of developing a solution, they do their best to deepen the crisis. The Treaty of Lausanne will expire soon. For this reason, each state wants to take its share in the Middle East. The war between Ukraine and Russia has been raising international concern but the war in northeastern Syria, which has been going on for 10 years, has been ignored.”

“The Syrian people can solve their own problems”

Emphasizing that Turkey has made new plans by supporting armed factions in the region, Şêrîn Hesen said, “In this century, everyone wants to realize their own interests. The occupying Turkish state aims to put new plans against civilians into effect by supporting armed factions. We decided to resist in the city of Shahba in order to return to Afrin with dignity. They try to prevent the people from returning to Afrin by carrying out non-stop attacks. We can solve the Syrian crisis by liberating Afrin. If the Syrian people do not develop a solution to their own problems, no one can do it. The YPG and YPJ fighters defeated ISIS in Baxoz. But ISIS continues to pose threats. Every state, organization, and person should feel responsible to end ISIS. Together we can end ISIS and build a Democratic Syria.”
