Two police officers sentenced to five months in prison for conducting strip searches

Two Turkish police officers have been each sentenced to five months in prison on charges of “Misconduct” for conducting strip searches against Mücella Yapıcı and her daughter Cansu Yapıcı.

News Center- The final hearing of the trial against three Turkish police officers was held Thursday at the Istanbul 11th High Criminal Court. Two police officers have been each sentenced to five months in prison on charges of “Misconduct” for conducting strip searches against Mücella Yapıcı,spokesperson for the Taksim Solidarity Platform, and her daughter Cansu Yapıcı. while the third police officer has been acquitted of all charges.

Gülyeter Aktepe, lawyer of Mücella Yapıcı and Cansu Yapıcı, was present at the hearing. “My clients were subjected to strip search even though the reason for their unjust and arbitrary detention was not a drug-related crime. Two hours after being detained, they were subjected to strip search,” Gülyeter Aktepe said at the hearing.

The court issued the acquittal of one police officer and sentenced two other police officers to six months in prison on charges of “Misconduct” but then reduced the prison sentence for each of them to five months. The court also decided to defer the announcement of the verdict.
