ROJ HOZAN
Qamishlo-The Kurdish, Arab, Christian, Assyrian, Armenian and Chaldean peoples living on their own lands are affected by Turkey's 'monist' state policies not only in Turkey, but also outside Turkey. Nezira Gewriya, Co-chair of the Executive Board of the Cizre Region of NE Syria, spoke to NuJINHA about Turkish operations launched in NE Syria and Turkish policies against the Christians.
“An expansionist policy is carried out”
Stating that Turkey has carried out many attacks against the Middle East, Nezira Gewriya pointed out that this expansionist and aggressive policy aims to change the lands, identities and cultures of all peoples in the Middle East. Nezira Gewriya recalled Turkish attacks that took place in 1914 and 1915, “Approximately 150 million people were killed in those genocidal attacks,” Nezira Gewriya said, “The Christians of the Simele region of Iraq demanded their rights but Turkey responded to their demands by carrying out a massacre against them on August 7, 1933.”
“Their plans are still the same”
Nezira Gewriya mentioned the current attacks against the Christians and she said, “The massacre attacks against the will of the peoples still continue. On August 3, 2014, ISIS attacked the Yazidi community in Shengal. Another massacre was carried out against the Christians living in Nineveh province on August 7, 2014. By carrying out these attacks, they want to destroy our originality and identity. These attacks and massacres still continue. The Turkish state continues to attack NE Syria every day. Their plans are still the same just the technique they use is advanced. The massacre carried out by ISIS against Assyrians in the countryside of Xabûr of Hesekê province in 2015 is not different from the other massacres.”
Call for unity
Talking about Turkey’s preparation for the post-Lausanne period, Nezira Gewriya said, “We had no border before. The Turkish state is expanding its interests with the Treaty of Lausanne. There are long-term plans for our region. For this reason, our resistance is not over yet. The policy of the Turkish state is the same policy; they want to occupy a wide territory. The Autonomous Administration project is a response to such attacks.” Nezira Gewriya called on all peoples to act together to have a democratic future in Syria.
