Turkey: At least 1,803 agricultural workers die in last 10 years

In Turkey, at least 1,803 agricultural workers have died since 2013, according to the report released by the Laborer Health and Occupational Safety Assembly (İSİG).

News Center- The Laborer Health and Occupational Safety Assembly (İSİG) has released its report giving information about how many agricultural workers have died in Turkey since 2013.

At least 1,803 agricultural workers, including 235 children, 254 refugees, 346 women, died in the last 10 years, according to the report.

“112 agricultural workers died in 2013, 140 in 2014, 202 in 2015, 177 in 2016, 154 in 2017, 184 in 2018, 190 in 2019, 215 in 2020, 149 in 2021, 180 in 2022 and 90 in the first eight months of 2023,” the report said.

The report revealed that the number of workers, who lost their lives at workplaces, increased, especially in summer. The report also said, “847 of the workers who died in the agricultural sector were seasonal agricultural/field workers, 451 of them were shepherds/animal farm workers, 416 of them were forest workers and 89 of them were paid fishers."
