Idlib: Volunteer Initiative Project becomes hope for women living in camps

The Volunteer Initiative Project has been launched for the women living under difficult conditions in the refugee camps in Idlib. The project supports the economic empowerment of women and the education of children in the camps.

Idlib- Women living in the refugee camps in Idlib have launched a volunteer initiative project for all refugee women to support women and build a sense of social responsibility among women.

All women living in the camps share what they know with other women under the umbrella of the project. Within the scope of the project, women support each other and are in solidarity with each other.

Difficult conditions in the camp didn’t prevent her

30-year-old Aya Memduh keeps working voluntarily despite the difficult conditions in the camp, she uses her tent to teach children how to write and read in the camp. “The children have been deprived of their right to education in the camp. This situation made me very sad. For this reason, I decided to use my tent to teach them how to write and read. The people living in the camp support me; they send their children to my tent to help me to teach children.”

40-year-old Rawiya Hec Ehmed is a tailor. She has participated in the Volunteer Initiative Project to teach the women living in the camp how to sew. “My materials are old clothes. I sew new clothes by using old clothes. I earn a living in this way. I teach women how to sew in order to support them.”

Women need such projects

28-year-old Hana El-Esfar is from the village of Souran and she has lived in the Atma refugee camp. She learned how to sew. “My husband was injured in the bombardment on our village and then I started looking for a job to earn a living for my family. The volunteer project was an opportunity for me. Women need such projects to earn a living.”
