Morocco- Despite all challenges, Moroccan women keep participating in the labor force and prove that they can struggle against all difficulties they face. 20-year-old Aisha Nour is one of the Moroccan women who have proved that they can overcome difficulties. She opened her seafood shop in the Marché Central, a marketplace with historical and cultural significance in Casablanca.

Speaking about why she decided to open a seafood shop, Aisha Nour said, “I decided to open this seafood shop because I love seafood. Since I was 16 years old, I have come to this market. Before, I came here with my aunt, who sold seafood in the market. I began to explore this world. As I watched my aunt and the buyers, my interest in this business increased.”

She opened a seafood shop

Aisha Nour decided to start her own business during the pandemic. “I wanted to start my own business. I first thought of opening a clothing or hairdresser shop. But then, I decided to open a seafood shop because I already had experience,” Aisha Nour told us. Stating that she did her best to be successful in this business, Aisha Nour wanted to show that Moroccan women can overcome all challenges.

“When I opened my shop, I was like a baby trying to walk by crawling. I wanted to walk but stumbled. I faced many challenges but I was determined and overcame all the challenges. I will continue to prove myself in this business,” she said.

“Women should be brave”

Aisha Nour buys products in small quantities to prevent spoilage and sells fresh seafood in her shop. Noting that women have strong personalities and will, Aisha Nour said, “Women should be brave and focus on what they are doing. Thus, they will succeed.”
