Historical buildings in Şırnak resist time
The Fegiyê Teyran Madrasa, located between Cizre and Güçlükonak districts in Şırnak province, has been left unprotected for years and it is fighting a hard battle for survival.
Şırnak- Botan region contains many beauties with its historical structures and nature. The historical sites in the city surrounded by the majestic mountains Cudi and Gabar are threatened by neglect. One of these buildings is Fegiyê Teyran Madrasa. Only four walls remain from the madrasa in the village of Keraşin, located between Cizre and Güçlükonak districts.
The madrasa has been fighting a hard battle for survival for years. When it was built, it was used as a school. It has been left unprotected for years and now only four walls remain from the madrasa.
The building left unprotected
The building has been left unprotected by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, a part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for years and it was mostly destroyed in 1990 when the highway authority carried out a highway construction project in the area. The remaining parts of the Feqiyê Teyran Madrasa were severely damaged due to the villagers and ongoing military operations in the region. The mosque of the madrasa still stands up but only the mosque’s mihrab can be used now.
Many endangered historical buildings
Another endangered historical building is Kasrik Ruins located in Kasrik town of Şırnak province. The most famous Neo-Assyrian rock reliefs in the Kasrik Ruins have been seriously damaged. There are dams, bridges, and city ruins in the Kasrik ruins site, which had been called as “Sazirka” during Guti’s period. The historical buildings in the historical site have been threatened by neglect.
Who is Fegiyê Teyran?
He was one of the first representatives of the Kurdish Folk Literature. He is considered one of the great classic Kurdish poets and writers. Although he knew Arabic and Persian languages and literature very well, he particularly wrote all his literary works in Kurdish.
