Cooperative in Gaza against environmental pollution: They use waste materials in sea for decoration

There is great interest in Hana Al Ghoul's place named “Sea Cooperative Initiative”, which draws attention to environmental pollution in Gaza, located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. All tables, chairs, flower pots of the place, which also has a reading room, are made of waste material found in the sea.

REFİF İSLİM

Gaza- Actress, director, and writer Hana Al-Ghoul becomes a model for everyone by opening a place called “Sea Cooperative Initiative” to protect the Mediterranean Sea. She prepared a project about collecting plastic waste near coasts and presented it to the municipality. After her project was rejected by the municipality, Hana never gave up and she began to work with several of her friends to protect the sea. They built a place called “Sea Cooperative Initiative”, and used the garbage in the sea for decoration of the place to raise awareness against the pollution in the sea.

Recycled materials for the decoration

Underlining that they want a clean coastline, Hana used recycled and artistic materials for the decoration of the cooperative. Hana, of course, didn’t do everything alone, she has worked with a group consists of 54 people. The group members never buy new things for the cooperative because they reuse all materials they found in the sea. They use auto tires, tin cans, and all garbage they find in the sea and on the coasts.

Cooperative accepts solid waste donations

The door of the cooperative is open for everyone and the cooperative accepts solid waste donations. The first visit to the cooperative is free but if you want to go to the cooperative again, you have to bring wastes instead of throwing them in the trash or into the sea. The group members also have animals. The people of Gaza donate food waste to the animals instead of throwing them away.

It has a reading room

One of the rooms of the cooperative is a reading room. You can read a book there or exchange your books. While the cooperative raises environmental awareness, it also organizes cultural activities.
