Mahabad- Wars, conflicts, chemical contaminants and wastes have negatively affected the environment. Raising children who will be more aware of environmental issues is one of the ways to protect the environment. Environmental activists held a tree planting activity for children in Mahabad, a city of Eastern Kurdistan.
NuJINHA spoke to environmental activist Dylan Boursan, who did not tell her real name for security reasons, about their activity. Noting that they decided to hold such an activity in order to plant trees with children. “One of the problems we face is that people do not know which tree should be planted where. Planting trees is important to combat climate change and to preserve biodiversity. We teach children how to plan trees.”
Speaking about the roles of trees in our earth, she said, “Trees produce oxygen by converting carbon dioxide and water into oxygen through photosynthesis. Our goal is to raise awareness to protect the environment and children play an important role in achieving this goal. Our aim is to raise children who will be more aware of environmental issues. We taught children how they can plant and protect trees. Today, children planted 15 trees.”
