“Wadi Gaza should be added to UNESCO World Heritage List”

Joint Council for Planning and Development in Wadi Gaza held an event called “Tourist Route” on the occasion of International Women's Day.

Gaza- The Joint Services Council for Planning and Development in Wadi Gaza organized the “Tourist Route” event on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8, to educate women about the importance of preserving environmental spaces in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the support of the Government of Norway. The women who participated in the event demanded the Wadi Gaza Coastal Wetlands be added to the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Speaking about the event, Majdoleen Darwish, a Nuseirat Municipal Council member, said that the Palestinian women had and still have strong ties with their lands and are a symbol of resistance. “The Wadi Gaza has a unique natural and historical importance that should be protected and added to UNESCO World Heritage List,” she said.

Suha Sukkar, one of the participants, told us she participated in the event because of her love for nature.

Rima Abu Rahma, another participant of the event, began to talk by wishing a happy International Women’s Day to all women. “I participate in this event for two reasons. The first reason is to be in solidarity with women on International Women’s Day and the second reason is to protect the Wadi Gaza.

Wissam Abu Awad, a young environmentalist, told us that she participated in the event to celebrate International Women’s Day by protecting nature.
