Qamishlo –Village life is a collective life. For centuries, attacks against women have been constantly carried out in order to separate women and nature from each other and the capitalist system tries to control women by carrying out these attacks against women. Despite the attacks, there is still a collective spirit in villages. Women live in harmony with nature in villages. Despite all the technological developments, women prefer village life to city life. Despite the waves of migration, citizens and women living in the village of Girkê Selma do not leave their village. In the village of Girkê Selma, located in the north of Derik, people live in nature. About 40 families live in this village. The majority of the inhabitants of this village are women. These women are determined to not leave their village and the beauties of nature.

Old days in the village

60-year-old Gule Muhemed Remo is one of these women. “I spent my childhood and youth in this village. I won’t leave this village because I have spent my whole life here. Before, life in the village used to be better. We didn’t get tired although we worked day and night. But now, life is not the same as before. Everything is so expensive now. We used to get together and tell stories to each other. We used to be together in good times and bad times. There was no difference among the villagers. Villagers always used to help each other,” she told us.

Women are more connected to nature

Stating that village life is a collective life, 60-year-old Zehra Ebdullah said, “I am not originally from this village but I got married to a man from this village. I and my children have spent our lives here. There is a big difference between village life and city life. We breathe fresh air in the villages. Every day, the villagers come together and share. Everything in villages is natural. But the city life is different. Despite all the developments in the world, we love our village life. We are connected to our village. Women are more connected to nature in villages. We don’t like city life because it isn’t natural. People living in cities are like robots.”
