Deir ez-Zor- There are many women’s committees carrying out awareness raising activities, seminars and workshops for women in Deir ez-Zor, a city in North and Easy Syria. Khitam Haddou, the director of the Women’s Committee of the Peoples’ Assembly told us that the committee aims to reach all women in the city.
“Women have organized in many fields”
Stating that before the establishment of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, women were deprived of their rights and ignored, Khitam Haddou said, “But since the establishment of the administration, women have organized themselves in many fields such as military, political, social and economic fields. The system of co-presidency is an important achievement of women. This system paves the way for women to participate in decision-making positions.”
“Our aim is to reach all women”
Speaking about the activities of the women’s committee, Khitam Haddou pointed out that their first aim is to raise awareness of women. “We visit women at their homes. Women are the architects of their societies; however, society sees them as only mothers. We want to change this point of view. We have held seminars to raise awareness against child marriage, polygamy and gender-based violence. We aim to reach all women in the city. We expect the support of the relevant authorities,” she said.
