Dersim - In Dersim, where the majority of the population consists of students, the students have suffered from shelter problems for years. While most students cannot find rental houses in the city, the female students staying at the Munzur Girls’ Dormitory face transportation problems. The Munzur Girls’ Dormitory was opened last year in Dersim. But the female students have difficulties due to the distance between the dormitory and the city center.

The distance between the dormitory and city center is 12 kilometers

The dormitory, which is located 12 kilometers away from the city center, has a capacity of 230 people. The female students staying at the dormitory stated that the public transport vehicles provide services until the university not to the dormitory due to the distance between the dormitory and the city center. The female students told us that they have to walk on the lonely road for half-hour to go to the dormitory.

“The dormitory was opened last year. But the dormitory is far away from both the city center and university. It is located in a mountainous and desolate place. The public transport vehicles provide services only until the university, not to the dormitory. We have to walk to the university and then walk back to the dormitory but the road is lonely. Students have not faced any bad situations yet. But that doesn't mean we won't face it. We are afraid because we know that the rate of femicide and abuse has been increasing in the country,” one of the students told us.

The students demand the transportation problem between the dormitory and city center be immediately solved in order to prevent a possible attack.
